Rick Morgan, BSN, CMT
Founder
Rick Morgan has been working in health care for over 12 years, first as a Pediatric Intensive Care Nurse, a volunteer EMT, and currently as a Certified Massage Therapist (CMT). He is dedicated to helping people feel better and live healthier lives.
As a teacher and guest lecturer at the AKS School of Massage, Rick taught pregnancy massage as part of the core curriculum. As a result of this expertise, he found himself frequently working with pregnant women who had been put on bed rest. Massage had such a positive and huge impact on these women that he realized he wanted to make pregnancy massage a significant part of his practice.
As Rick’s practice grew (he currently owns the largest independently owned massage center in Northern Virginia), he wanted to continue providing high-quality pregnancy massage. He felt to do that his massage staff should all be certified in pregnancy massage.
The challenge he faced was that there were very few therapists trained in Pregnancy Massage beyond the basics they learned in massage school, and finding those few wasn’t easy. He decided to enroll his staff in a certification course. As he searched for a course, he discovered there were no standards for what “Certified” meant. If this was confusing for him, then he thought it must be very confusing for pregnant women who wanted to be sure the massage therapist they were seeing was properly trained.
Rick realized that if he could create an organization that set a standard for the minimum training needed for pregnancy massage certification, help pregnant women find a qualified therapist, and educate the public on the marvelous benefits of Pregnancy Massage, he could take his passion for helping pregnant women feel better to a whole new level. Thus the American Pregnancy Massage Association was formed.
Rick continues to teach and maintains a pregnancy massage practice at Rejuvenations Massage Therapy in Northern VA.
